I was born in Canada, in 1980, but moved to Portugal with my parents three years later. I have a degree in International Relations from the University of Coimbra. I got my masters degree in History and Theology of Religions from the Portuguese Catholic University, with a dissertation on the role of forgiveness in conflict resolution.
I began to work in journalism in 2004, as a writer for the literary magazine “Os Meus Livros”. In 2008 I moved to Renascença, where a specialised in the field of religion. After 12 years at Renascença I left to work as a freelancer, doing regular work for international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need.
Since 2023 I have also done commentary on religious issues for SIC Notícias, and I am regularly published by outlets such as Expresso, The Pillar, The Tablet, World Mission, and Brotéria. Being bilingual, I also do freelance work as a translator and interpreter.
I married Ana in 2005, and we have been blessed with six children, who we strive to raise as good Christians, good people, and good Benfica fans.
Actualidade Religiosa began as a humble mailing list for friends and acquaintances, basically as a way to promote my work. It then evolved into a Facebook group and, eventually, a blog. In 2024 I created this website to better organise and showcase my work. Most of the content on this site is in Portuguese, although some articles or interview transcripts are in English. If you have any questions, please to not hesitate to contact me.
